The association aims to promote the economic, social and societal interests of the business community in general and its members in particular in the 'Sloegebied', the 'Kanaalzone Zeeuws-Vlaanderen' and neighbouring areas in Zeeland. Central to this is the competitive strength of the region.

Portiz originates from the Circle of Employers (Kring van Werkgevers) in the Zeeuws-Vlaanderen Canal Zone (founded in 1946) and the Industriegroep Midden-Zeeland and works closely with VNO-NCW Brabant Zeeland.
